Pick a Corner and Commit
The single most important habit in 2048 is choosing one corner (most players prefer bottom-left or bottom-right) and building your highest-value tile there permanently. Every move should reinforce that corner rather than pull your biggest tile away from it.
Keep One Direction Locked
Many strong players avoid using one of the four directions almost entirely once their board fills up. If your anchor tile is bottom-right, try to avoid swiping in the direction that would move it away from that corner. This keeps your largest tiles stacked in a predictable pattern.
Build a Descending Chain
Arrange your tiles so that values decrease steadily away from your anchor corner — for example 1024, 512, 256, 128 along one edge. This "staircase" pattern makes merges predictable and prevents small tiles from getting trapped in the middle of the board.
Don't Panic-Merge
New players often merge tiles as soon as possible. Instead, sometimes it's better to let two matching tiles sit for a turn if merging them immediately would break your staircase pattern or force an unwanted board shift.
Watch Your Empty Spaces
