How the AI Thinks
The computer opponent evaluates its replies by looking two moves ahead (a minimax search with alpha-beta pruning) and by weighing piece values and board position -- pawns are worth 1 point, knights and bishops 3, rooks 5, and queens 9, with a small positional bonus for well-placed pawns.
Rules Coverage
Standard piece movement is fully supported, and a pawn reaching the last rank automatically promotes to a queen. Castling and en passant capture aren't implemented in this version, so plan your king's safety and pawn play without relying on either.
