Minesweeper Logic Rules Every Player Should Know
Minesweeper is pure deduction: every number tells you exactly how many mines touch it. Learning to read those numbers correctly eliminates most of the guesswork that trips up new players.
The Basic Rule
A revealed number tells you exactly how many of its adjacent (touching) tiles contain mines. If a "1" has only one unrevealed neighbor, that neighbor is definitely a mine.
The Satisfied Number Rule
If a number's mine count is already matched by flagged neighbors, every other unrevealed neighbor of that number is guaranteed to be safe and can be clicked with confidence.
Combine Overlapping Clues
When two numbers share unrevealed neighbors, comparing their constraints can reveal safe tiles or guaranteed mines that neither clue alone would show. This is the core technique that separates advanced players from beginners.
Use Corners and Edges Strategically
Tiles along the edge of the board have fewer neighbors, which makes their constraints easier to solve. When stuck, scanning the edges for solvable numbers before tackling the open middle often unlocks progress.
When You Truly Must Guess
Occasionally a board reaches a genuine 50/50 situation with no logical solution. In that case, pick the tile with fewer total unrevealed neighbors nearby, since it tends to open up more information if it's safe.
